Communities That Care
Hillsborough County Communities That Care
- South County
- Seminole Heights
- Town N’ Country
Hillsborough County Communities That Care focuses on
three selected neighborhoods: South County, Seminole Heights/ Sulfur Springs
and Town N’ Country. Concerned community members received training on the
CTC process from Channing Bete and formed neighborhood community boards.
Each community board collected data on the risk and protective factors of
the neighborhood youth, ages 12 to 18. The data collected includes CTC youth
surveys, and archival data including suspension rates, absences, violence
incidents at schools, neighborhood mobility rate, teen pregnancies, and
juvenile crime rate. The CTC community boards selected 2 priority risk
factors and are developing community assessment reports. The community
boards are reviewing the available resources including after school
programs, youth groups, and prevention programs for children and their
families. This information will be used to develop resource assessment
reports. The community boards are investigating tested, effective prevention
programs that can be implemented to decrease risk factors and enhance
protective factors. Grants of $5,000 each are available from the Drug Free
Communities grant for each of the three communities to utilize for surveys,
distributing reports, developing professional presentations, researching
effective prevention programs, soliciting financial support, researching new
prevention programs, building and sustaining their CTC group and evaluation.
The Hillsborough County Anti Drug Alliance provides technical assistance and
training for Hillsborough County Communities That Care.
